JUNIOR NEWS & FIXTURES 

There will be a meeting with Parents and Junior members in the Clubhouse after the "Junior Captain's Drive In" on the afternoon of 4th March 2012. 

 

The Club will be focusing on obtaining Golf Mark accreditation in 2012. 

 

 

The format will be a 4 ball Texas Scramble over 9 holes and teams will be made up of 2 men, 1 lady and 1 junior. Each junior member wil be expexted to have a handicap but the focus will be on a fun competition - even though there are those that find their greatest pleasure in winning! 

 

The 2012 Junior Captain will be Alex Clayton - after the competition Alex will be presented with his blazer by the Club's Captain and there will be a brief presentation to parents and members alike on our plans for junior members in the coming year.  

 

The competition sheet will be posted in the foyer of the clubhouse - please sign up for what is going to be a very enjoyable day. 

 

Entry to the competition will be free for junior members but we are asking adults for a contribution to the Junior Captain's Charity - "Destination Florida". This is a small, northern based charity that specialises in bringing a ray of sunshine into the lives of children suffering from life threatening illnesses by taking a group of 75 children on a trip of a lifetime after they have missed out on the fun and laughter of childhood due to their illness. 

 

During the competition, the Professional will be holding free taster sessions on the practice field, weather permitting, for juniors from 3-20pm until 4-05pm. This will be two sessions, each of 20 minutes duration. In order to sign up for a taster session, please contact Phil Haynes our Club Professional on (01457 853117).  

 

 

 

The golf club is actively pursuing this award in an attempt to foster stronger links with our local schools, to increase junior membership as well as the amount of time dedicated to the coaching of our junior members. 

 

In pursuit of this award, the following is going to take place this year: 

*coaching for beginners 

*coaching for local primary schools 

*coaching for local secondary schools 

*coaching for intermediate juniors 

*coaching for junior members with club handicaps 

*competitions for beginners (on the practice field) 

*competitions for junior members with handicaps. 

 

We have been fortunate enough to engage the assistance of several parents and grandparents of junior members and this is an area we are always looking to develop, so if any other adult volunteers are interested, do not be afraid to contact the Professional at the club! 

 

We are most grateful to St. Philip Howard Sports College and its staff for enrolling approximately 50 Year 7 students on a course of coaching from April as part of their sports curriculum developments. 

 

 

Throughout the season we are going to hold a Juniors' Competition on every available Sunday, at  

3-00pm, and the Professional is going to hold a coaching session for Juniors prior to each competition, starting at 2-00pm. Dates are listed below and further details will be available on the Professional's page. 

 

There will be times when the Club will be involved in competitions that will entail the cancelling of a Sunday competition for Juniors and, possibly, the coaching session as well, but we hope that the Junior Section will not suffer from such instances on too many occasions. 

 

Please refer to your web page to find out when these Club matches are going to take place - we will notify you as soon as possible prior to each match that has not already been recorded on the fixture list. 

 

 

On Friday, 20th January, the club held a Race Night in order to raise funds for the Juniors' section. 

This was an excellent evening's entertainment and resulted in the club raising the grand total of £1,095.
